Eglinton

sold out!

Eglinton is a magnificent and authentic Edwardian era (circa 1910) sapphire and diamond engagement ring. The center bezel-set sapphire is accompanied by a GIA Sapphire Origin Report stating the Cushion Brilliant Step Cut natural sapphire is from Sri Lanka with no evidence of heat treatment. The rare no heat sapphire is the loveliest clear cornflower color and has been graded in the mounting to weigh approximately 2.35ct. Eglinton is further decorated by a halo of twenty-two Old European Cut diamonds and an additional 68 Old European Cut diamonds dot the intricate lacy setting totalling approximately 1.25ctw (our gemologist would like to note that these Old European Cut stones are actually considered Swiss Cut, a lovely and rare cut seen almost exclusively in antique jewelry that is, in simple terms, like a Single Cut-Old European Cut hybrid). The beautiful handmade platinum setting tapers to a clean, polished platinum shank, and sits rather comfortably on the finger considering how elaborately decorative the ring is!

Eglinton is currently a size 4 and can be sized to fit most ring sizes. Please contact our concierge with sizing questions.

HISTORY
During the Edwardian period, technological advances caused major changes in the way that jewelry was manufactured. Jewelers were finally able to work with platinum, which allowed for more intricate and detailed pieces. Delicate settings with lots of diamonds were especially popular during this time, though we also see a number of different colored stones, including sapphires, aquamarines, and rare electric green demantoid garnets.
